As long as people are allowed to profit

jus' thinkin' 'bout stuff - 02-23-2022 - by steve rigell -

The conditions for human life had to be present before human life could emerge.

Air. Water. Food. Shelter. Intelligence. Awareness.

We still rely on all these essentials today.

We had nothing to do with their existence, but we’ve always taken advantage of them being available to us.

And we’ve always taken these conditions for granted.

We don’t realize that each breath we take puts us in debt to our planet, and the life systems that produce the air, water and food we must depend on.

To allow humans to profit off these essentials, all of which at some point involve the participation of light in their production, is an act of hubris that ignores the true context in which we live and our dependence on nature.

Nature’s systems have only a few requirements for sustainability. One of these requirements is that participating entities must add more value back into the system than the value it extracts in order to live.

We humans think we can extract value without adding value back in.

We take this thinking much further. We think we can defile the systems we depend on without consequence.

The thinking is not sustainable.

The degree to which we much change our thinking, our mindsets, our ways of doing what we do daily, is staggering. We’re trying to change the game without first understanding the rules of the game we want to change.

The amount of anguish that will be suffered as we incrementally learn to change our minds is also staggering.

I think most people want to do the right thing.

But people also want to be told what to do by an ‘authority.’

The problem with this approach is the people we recognize as leaders—the people who want to be recognized as authoritative—are mostly psychopaths. Psychopaths are inherently selfish, and selfishness is the breeding ground of greed.

Though it would help for ‘authorities’ to stop advocating greed or being its exemplars, eliminating greed cannot be legislated. This has to come from within. It has to be done on a personal level, at least in the beginning.

If parents can take this first step, most children would not have any problem embracing it.

If leaders could see the value in parents having time to be parents…

All these ‘ifs.’

It is so much easier to find a reason something can’t be done than to figure out how to do it, especially when the way things are is comfortable.

Consequently, we always default to discomfort before we change.

And that has to change.

But in order for that to change, we have to change our minds.

What we are doing is not okay. It won’t be okay in the future.

We have to change the way we do things. To do that, we have to change our minds.

We have to change our minds so we can liberate our hearts. We have to stop making our hearts do mind things. And we especially need to stop making them do mindless things. Liberate your heart and let it guide you. Reclaim your genius. Visit to learn how.
