Even a capitalist can understand
Even worse, we can’t hide from ourselves by pretending we didn’t understand what we were doing. We can’t blame our predicament on somebody else. We can’t say the booze or the algorithm made me do it.
In capitalist terms, we are losers.
And we can thank capitalists for that.
Hollywood has made sure we all know what the loser looks like.
Pathetic, simpering, wanting sympathy for his stupidity and greed. Promising to do better but never following through. Hoping for a lucky break he knows isn’t going to come. Pointing his puny finger at ’something out there’ that is to blame for his failure. Complaining about all the things over which he has no control. Saying he’s sorry and this will never happen again. Swearing on his mother’s grave.
That’s the archetype for the human spirit right now.
If we have any hope for a future at all, we have to start making better choices. Individually and collectively.
It’s that simple.
We are capable of not being losers.
How does a loser change his ways? He has to change his mind. Or her mind. No, I’m not saying ‘he’ should change ‘her’ mind. She has to changer her own mind.
The only way this can happen on a mass scale, it first has to happen on an individual level. That’s really the only reason for being an individual at all—it’s about what individuals contribute to the whole.
No one has to be a loser, it’s always a choice.
Just as it is a choice to change your mind.
You’re the only one who can do it. No one else can change your mind
Not being a loser will mean changing our minds so we can find the reasons to make better choices.
It will take changing our minds so we can see consequences and their causes.
It will take changing our minds so our minds are willing to work with our hearts instead of ignoring the wisdom inherent in them.
We must change on a fundamental level.
We must change on a massive scale.
We must change before we can no longer do it.
Obviously we need a miracle. If you want to attribute that miracle to God or to magic or to people working with the laws of nature, it doesn’t matter. We all still need to do our part.
It’s the least we can do.
Spread the word.
Let’s dream together.
