The best years of our lives

jus' thinkin' 'bout stuff - 04-06-2022 - by steve rigell -

We’re fish who can’t see the water we swim in.

Hell, we don’t even know we’re swimming.

We accept society’s narrative without question, fitting in, getting along, buying from the company store and letting the wealthy control the narrative.

As long as enough of us are reasonable comfortable, and feel reasonably safe and secure, we’ll continue to comply.

We’ll sacrifice our dignity, give up our personal power, succumb to distractions that masquerade as fun, and ignore outrageous injustice as long as it isn’t aimed at us.

We let the authorities overstep their authority. We’ll witness politicians lying without blinking an eye. We cheer when corporations make insane profits year after year because that means the economy is doing great.

Do we ever wake up?

How does this story end?

It’s far too easy to imagine the last two people on earth fighting each other to the death, and the last one standing saying to the freshly slain, “I’m doing you a favor.”

We have to at least try to prevent that from happening.
